Runner's Prayer Four

>> 9/10/08

Our Father,

We are common people facing common struggles. Bodies grow weary. Minds lose focus. We wrestle with self doubt and confront personal fears. The temptation to conform to the expectations of others is real.

In spite of this, we desire to accomplish the uncommon. Grant to us the resources to meet the challenges of the course before us rather than settling for the status quo.

On this day, help us to perform ordinary tasks extraordinarily well. Give us the ability to overcome present obstacles and to correct past mistakes. Grant that our achievements will represent the best that is within us so that the joy of accomplishment can be fully embraced.

May we run with heart but not to our harm. Temper courage with wisdom. Make clear to us the places where we should persist in our efforts to discover life's possibilities. Show us also the places where we should desist in an awareness of life's realities.

As we keep faith with you, enable us to also believe in ourselves and others. Through our wholehearted commitment to this contest, teach us to embrace all of life more fully. Make us aware of how extraordinary all the ordinary moments you give us are meant to be.

Help us realize our true capacity as we seek to go the distance in this race and in life. May both be pursued in a manner that honors you and results in an uncommon love of living.

Amen.

Somehow, you keep finding the words that express everything running is, and it's parallel to life. Once again, thanks.

I am not surprised you've found more words and thoughts to compose Runner's Prayer IV.

Awesome. I still look to I, II and III.

Beautiful.

Craig,

I may just need to share this with the RD of the Plain 100 that Rob "Rattler" Hester and I are running this weekend.

Brilliant!

Eric

Michelle -- Thanks. And thanks for the mention over at your place the other day. Kind of made me feel included in some small way in what you guys were doing.

Robb -- Glad you use them. Evidently there are others who are looking for them. About half of the traffic here comes from people googling "runner's prayer." So I hope they are helpful to someone. Somehow when I finish one I usually have some leftover thoughts that serve as the beginning of the next one. I already know there will be a fifth at some point.

Justrun -- You're welcome. I always enjoy reading over at your place.

JTAC -- Thanks Eric. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and Rob this weekend.
